HENRI IV

THE SKULL OF HENRI IV

According to an article, which appeared in edition No 55 (dated 7th April 1931) of the French paper "A La Page", King Louis XVI was not the only French King to loose his head in 1793, during the French Revolution. It seems that in addition most of the bodies of long dead French Kings were desecrated and destroyed. However it is told that the heads of King Henri IV, King Louis XV and King Louis XVI were spirited away and saved.

It seems that in 1931 a Msr. Joseph-Emile Bourdais of Dinard was attempting to show that a mummified head in his possession was that of King Henri IV.

Since the article was written while Msr. Bourdais was conducting his quest, it does not indicate the outcome. I wonder whether the head still exists? and whether it has since been subjected to DNA testing?

Since writing the above the following announcement has been made:-

"Tests show head of France's King Henri IV 'genuine'"
