INTERNET

I use the internet both at work and at home. For work I mainly use it research and email, but this page is about how I use it at home.

At home my main uses of the internet are to communicate with other people, to conduct research, to buy and sell things, to keep up to date with world news and certain sports results, maintaining web sites .....

I communicate using mainly email, MSN and Skype. I have a webcam, so with MSN and Skype I can spend hours video chatting to people in other countries, for no more than the cost of the monthly broadband fee. Spam is the biggest pain for me when using email. About 98% of email that I receive is spam. This is in part due to the fact that email address has not changed for more than 10 years. My spam filter seems to have a knack of keeping the rubbish while relegating the messages I want to keep to the deleted folder.

When doing research the main search engine I use is Google, but if I see a hit for my search phrase from Wikipedia, in the first couple of pages of Google results, then that will usually be my first point of reference, since I know it won't just be a load of nonsense links and adverts, which seem to clutter the internet these days.
