DREAMS

Either I don't dream much (I mean dreams while I'm asleep), or I simply don't remember them. People say dreams mean something. I'm not sure about that, but if you believe it, feel free to analyse these. Of course I have woken up remembering a few dreams, which I have now long forgotten. Here are the few, which I think I remember.

1. I don't know if this was a dream or actually happened when I was born, either way it happened a long tome ago. I was born into the world and thought, wow, fantastic the re-incarnation theory  is really true. This delight was mingled with a huge frustration, caused by the fact that I couldn't talk. I knew that by the time I had learned to talk, I would either have forgotten about it, or no one would believe me.

2. This was not my dream but my uncle Doug's. He was a bit of a joker, so it might not have been true. I was about 15 years old and we were staying with my uncle and aunt in Birchington, Kent, England. I went down to breakfast and uncle Doug announced that just before waking up, he had had a vivid dream,  in which he was being chased by a purple coloured crocodile. Later that day, in the afternoon, a horse called "Red Alligator" won the Grand National.

3. I had this dream in 1994. I was looking into a bedroom in a village house in Southern France. Straight ahead, was a double bed, just below an open window (the window was in two sections, with one thrown wide open towards the left and the other to the right). The top of the low headboard was against the wall just below the window sill. Light blue curtains were billowing inwards in the breeze. The duvet on the bed was white with pictures of lavender sprigs printed on it. The room had the fresh smell of spring. The pillows were white and well fluffed up. Spanish guitar music was playing in the background. Sun was streaming in the window. In the foreground the sky was bright blue. In the distance it was dark as thunder. Because of my circumstance at the time I can interpret a lot of this dream myself, but that is confidential, so make of it what you can.

4. I has this dream in the early hours of 7th May 2007. I was in my modern apartment (except it in no way resembled any apartment I had ever lived in). I was in the small carpeted living room. There was plenty of sunlight coming in through two glazed balcony doors. The carpet was a light beige colour and the walls were painted almost the same colour but much lighter. The ceiling was white (the apartment I have actually lived in for the last eight years has a tiled floor, white walls and white ceiling and the living room is much larger). A large fat very dark grey and white spotted scorpion scuttled across the carpet towards me, waving it's pincers as it approached. My foremost thought was that it looked highly poisonous. Almost immediately it started shedding large number of translucent baby scorpions onto the carpet. I was not too frightened by the large scorpion, since I figured one stamp from a hefty boot would dispatch it, but I worried that I might have a more severe problem in the future when the babies grew up. I called pest control, who duly arrived and informed me that the large scorpion I had seen was in fact a crab.

5. This dream took place in the early hours of 12th December 2008. In this dream I was an observer not a participant. This young couple (aged about 25) were due to get married the next day. It had been decided that the groom should bake the wedding cake. This he did (while wearing his wedding suit). When he turned it out of the baking tin it was white, spongy and almost tasteless (very similar in texture and taste to an English crumpet before it is toasted). This was not considered to be a disaster because there was still 24 hours to go before the wedding. He was about to try again when I left the dream.

6. When I have to catch a plane I am always at the airport and checked in long before I need to be. In this recurring dream I am transferring from one flight to another, but everything goes wrong in terms of me losing my passport, ticket and boarding pass. The airport is full of security checks and once you have been through one it is very difficult to retrace your steps, which I have to do in order to search for my lost items. In the dream I always end up catching my connecting flight by the skin of my teeth and then have a hard time finding somewhere to sit, because the seating is not pre-allocated.
