Code 1

Mask of Zorro

Code 2
Pure entertainment. After many years of silence, Zorro, champion of the poor and seeker of justice, rides again. This great movie stars Anthony Hopkins at his most charming, Antonio Banderas at his most cheeky and Catherine Zeta-Jones at her most beautiful.

Code 1

Man in the Iron Mask

Code 2
Fantastic Chateau, lavish costumes, premier league cast and plenty of action. Based on a true story, this fictional account (maybe), involves Louis XIV, the four Musketeers and of course the man in the iron mask. Leonardo DiCaprio proves he can act by playing both the parts of identical twin brothers, one of whom has a very pleasant disposition and the other who does not.

Code 1

Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves

Code 2
Despite the fact that Robin Hood is an American and Nottingham Castle is Carcassonne in Southern France, this movie is tremendous fun. My favourite part is where the Sheriff of Nottingham witnesses the destructive power of gunpowder for the first time.

Code 1

The Prisoner

Code 2
When a British secret agent resigns, he finds himself mysteriously transported to 'The Village'. In the village he is known as Number 6 and nearly all his attempts at escape are foiled. The masters of the village want to know why he resigned. Number 6 wants to know who Number 1 is. Who runs the village? His own side, the enemy, or both? Another excellent series which has also been released on DVD and was effectively the precursor to The Prisoner was Danger Man or Secret Agent Man as it was called in the US. Patrick McGoohan was the star of both series.

Goldeneye

Code 2
Since 1962 when Sean Connery saved the world as James Bond in Dr. No, numerous Bond movies have entertained. After Sean Connery, Bond was also played by Roger Moore, George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton. Then there was a long gap before Pierce Brosnan picked up the mantle. The first Brosnan Bond, Goldeneye, came across as fresh and exciting, especially given the advances in movie making technology that had taken place during the spell of absence. However as seems to be the way with Bond movies, each Brosnan movie got slightly more far fetched, until we got the stupidity with invisible cars in ice palaces, in the movie Die Another Day.

Casino Royale

Code 2
Just when it seemed all was lost for Bond, we got another new one. This time is was Daniel Craig, who most critics thought to be a disastrous choice in the role of Bond. Craig confounded those critics in Casino Royale, which for me is the best Bond movie to date. Let's just hope the producers, directors and Craig himself, learn the lessons of the past, and keep Bond tough and down to earth in today's world and not start to camp it up.

Avengers

Code 2
Many fans of the original Avengers television series dislike this movie version. That may well be because Ralph Fiennes is not Patrick Macnee and because Uma Therman is not Diana Rigg. However the photography is superb and there are many other good points. John Steed is still suitably laid back, while Emma Peel still dresses sleekly in black for scenes where there will be a fight. The sets are solid and the giant radio controlled wasps are terrifying. The teddy bear's meeting is fabulous. I love the sound of Steed's feet crunching on freshly fallen snow.

Code 1

Superman

Code 2
Clark Kent is a wimp, but Superman is not. Wonderful special effects for their time.

Code 1

Batman

Code 2
Tim Burton's Batman towers above it's sequels. Michael Keaton is surprisingly effective as Bruce Wayne, known to low life criminals only as 'The Bat'. Features a great Batmobile, but it's a pity the Batplane isn't made of sterner stuff. I felt the series of Batman movies got weaker and weaker after Batman Returns, but the first two were excellent. However Batman Begins has now put the Bat onto a stronger footing again.

Batman Begins

Code 2
Well it began again a couple of decades after Michael Keaton began it and of course he began it, long after Adam West had. Batman Begins takes us back to a serious tough Batman. That is the way I like Batman to be - again please keep it serious in the sequels and resist the temptation to introduce stupid lines and unbelievable crooks.

Code 1

True Lies

Code 2
Arnold Schwarzenegger should never have been in a Batman movie, at least not as Mr. Freeze, but he was just right for True Lies. In this movie he is a secret agent with a bored wife (Jamie Lee Curtis). This action movie is also full of hilarious moments, including one where a used car salesman posing as a secret agent, is shown the error of his ways. This movie also includes a great sequence involving Harrier jump jets. The very nice tango music is from Por Una Cabeza by Carlos Gardel.

Code 1

A Knight's Tale

Code 2
I wasn't sure whether to put this under period drama, comedy or action, since it contains a lot of all of them. Not everyone approves of the choice of the Queen song "We are the Champions" being sung during some of the jousting tournaments, since it was rather out of period, but I think the movie is fun. It is also very emotional when the knight's father who gave up his young son, so he could have the chance of a better future, gets to see what he made of himself. Rufus Sewell plays the part of the baddie to perfection.

Code 1

xXx

Code 2
The pace of the action in this Vin Diesel movie makes the Bond movies look almost stagnant, even though xXx borrows a lot of ideas from Bond. I have met several people who didn't like this movie at all, but it entertained me more than adequately thank you very much. The sequel was a disappointment.

Code 1

Pirates of The Carribean

Code 2
Johnny Depp does it again. He apparently did it in part, by copying the mannerisms of Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, and once you know that, you can certain see it. Sadly the sequels including the one featuring Keith Richards himself did not live up to the promise of the first one.
